Police Investigating Kealakekua Structure Fire

Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a structure fire that occurred Sunday morning, December 15, 2024, in Kealakekua.

At about 8:26 a.m., Kona patrol officers responded to the 79-7300 block of Māmalahoa Highway in Kealakekua for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, officers observed flames engulfing the second floor of the structure. Hawai‘i Fire Department crews arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the fire. Māmalahoa Highway was closed to vehicular/pedestrian traffic between Lehuula Street and Basque Way from 8:33 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. as crews battled the fire and ensured the scene was safe.

It is undetermined how the fire started. No injuries were reported and the estimated cost of the damages has not been determined.
