Police Continue Search for Hale Nani Facility Escapees, Ask for Public’s Assistance

Hawai’i Island police are renewing their request for the public’s assistance in locating two male who escaped from the Hawai’i Community Correctional Center Hale Nani Facility located at 3200 Kanoelehua Avenue, in Hilo, on Friday, December 13, 2024.

The escapees are:

  • Clyde T. Loa, age 31, described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 225 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. 
  • Kawai J. Pomroy, age 41, described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, 260 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

A third inmate who reportedly escaped, Joseph Fernandez has already been captured by police on Wednesday December 18, 2024 after he was located at a residence in the Hawaiʻi Ocean View Estates Subdivision.

Hawai’i Island police are actively following up on tips received from the public regarding the whereabouts of both Loa and Pomroy who both have active warrants for their arrest.  They have been reported to have been seen in the Districts of Puna, Kaʻū, and Kona.

Police caution members of the public not to approach Loa and Pomroy but to rather immediately contact police.

The Hawaiʻi Police Department would also like to inform the public that harboring or concealing a wanted person could result in criminal charges being filed against the person who harbors or concealed the wanted person.

Citizens who wish to remain anonymous can make an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300 and be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.  Crime Stoppers does not record any calls or subscribe to caller ID.
