Officer Ines Honored by HISSPA as Officer of the Quarter For Keeping Island Roads Safe

For his continued efforts enforcing traffic safety on Hawai‘i Island roads, including arresting a dozen motorists driving more than 100 miles-per-hour, South Kohala Patrol Officer Severo Ines Jr. was recognized as Officer of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2024 by the Hawai‘i Island Safety and Security Professionals Association (HISSPA) in a ceremony held Friday, November 15, 2024, at a Kohala Coast resort.

Officer Ines’s noteworthy achievements in enforcing traffic regulations are a testament to his dedication to ensuring the public’s safety. In the past year alone, he has issued hundreds of speeding citations and arrested 18 individuals for excessive speeding, which occurs when a driver goes more than 30 miles-per-hour over the posted speed limit. Notably, 12 of these arrests involved motorists traveling at or above 100 miles-per-hour, with the highest recorded speed being an astonishing 134 miles per hour. This level of enforcement not only underscores Officer Ines’s proactive approach to maintaining roadway safety but also reflects his commitment to duty.

Excessive speeding is a serious threat to public safety, and Officer Ines’ efforts have undoubtedly prevented numerous potential accidents and saved lives. By identifying and addressing this dangerous behavior, Officer Ines has played a crucial role in enhancing the safety of our roadways and ensuring that they remain secure for all residents and visitors.

“We applaud Officer Ines in his dedication to roadway safety,” said Captain Roylen Valera. 

“We would like to remind all motorists to plan accordingly with sufficient time for travel, especially during the holiday season, when people are busy doing errands, shopping, attending festive gatherings and while visiting family and friends. Roadway safety is everyone’s responsibility,” he said.
