Motorcyclist Killed in Waikoloa Collision

A 45-year-old male motorcyclist from Honoka‘a died in a two-vehicle collision on Friday evening, April 4, 2025, near the 2-mile marker on Waikoloa Road (Highway 191) in Waikoloa. The motorcyclist has been identified as David Franklin Roland.

Responding to the reported crash at 9:16 p.m., police determined that Roland was operating a gray 2006 Honda VTX1300C motorcycle traveling eastbound (mauka) in the westbound (makai) bicycle lane when he sideswiped a gray 2023 Jeep Wrangler SUV heading west.

Roland was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:33 p.m.

The 45-year-old male driver and 43-year-old female passenger of the Jeep Wrangler were not injured in the collision.

The Area II Traffic Enforcement Unit has initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and is asking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Officer Dayson Taniguchi at (808) 326-4646 ext. 229 or email at dayson.taniguchi@hawaiicounty.gov. This is the 10th traffic fatality this year compared to 14 at this time last year.
