Crime Stoppers Program Lets Public Report Crimes Anonymously
The Hawaiʻi Police Department reminds community members that Hawai‘i Island Crime Stoppers is a free program to report anonymous tips regarding crimes. Hawai‘i Island Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe.
You can make an anonymous tip about a Hawaiʻi Island crime by calling Hawaiʻi Island Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300. You may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
When you call in a tip to Hawaiʻi Island Crime Stoppers, you’ll be given a code number to track the status of your case. By calling later and giving your code number, you can find out whether you qualify for a reward.
If the Hawaiʻi Island Crime Stoppers board of directors selects you for a reward, you will be directed to an agreed-upon location to pick up the money. You’ll never be required to provide your name. Hawaiʻi Island Crime Stoppers doesn’t record any calls or subscribe to caller ID.
Over the years, Hawai‘i Island Crime Stoppers has awarded more than $62,000 for tips in investigations. More than 1,000 crimes have been solved as a direct result of people calling in tips to Hawai‘i Island Crime Stoppers, including 12 murders and more than 350 burglaries, thefts, and auto thefts. Tips have also resulted in $1 million in recovered property.
