Fingerprinting Services and Criminal Abstracts
The Hawaiʻi Police Department (HPD) offers fingerprinting services, as well as criminal abstracts, commonly referred to as State of Hawaiʻi background checks. Fingerprinting services are available at all police stations island-wide. Criminal abstracts are only available in Hilo at the Records and Identification Section office or at the Kona Police Station.
Fingerprinting Services
Individuals requesting fingerprinting services are responsible for knowing what to do with the print card after the service is completed. HPD only provides the rolling service and if instructions are for HPD to mail out print card, proper postage needs to be provided by the person being fingerprinted. Fingerprinting services are available in Hilo and all police stations except Kona, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or in Kona, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Criminal Abstracts
Individuals wishing to conduct a criminal abstract, aka background check, may do so in person at our Records and Identification Section office in Hilo, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or in Kona, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Background checks will only show if someone has been charged with a crime in the state of Hawaiʻi. The abstract cannot be photographed.
Fees
Fees are the same for both fingerprinting and criminal abstracts.
- $25.00 per fingerprint card (both hands), or copy of abstract.
- Only cashier’s checks or money orders are accepted. The cashier’s check or money order must be made payable to Hawaiʻi Criminal Justice Data Center, or HCJDC.
