Community Satisfaction Survey
A note from Police Chief Benjamin Moszkowicz:
Since 2010, the Hawai‘i Police Department has conducted a Community Satisfaction Survey as part of its national accreditation process to solicit feedback from the community. From 2010 to 2019, the surveys were conducted every three years, and since 2019 they have been conducted every two years. The most recent survey was conducted from February 1, 2023, to February 28, 2023.
“At the most basic level, our job is to help the public feel safe.The only way we can gauge our success and identify areas for improvement, is to solicit feedback from the community. It is only through honest communication that we have any hope of continuing to improve the department and the community.”
Knowing that our department’s effectiveness is ultimately determined by the confidence and cooperation of the Hawaiʻi Island communities we serve, the survey included both multiple choice questions and an opportunity to make individual comments that helps us in determining Hawaiʻi Police Department’s strengths and weaknesses.
Mahalo to all those who participated in completing the 2023 Hawai‘i Police Department Community Satisfaction Survey! We received a record number of 1,579 responses, a 51 percent increase over the previous record of 1,041 responses received in 2021.

Hawaiʻi Police Department believes every victim deserves justice, and that the deceased victim’s family, friends, and community deserve closure.
