Hawai‘i Police Department’s Kona Community Policing Section in collaboration with the Hawai‘i Island Police Activities League (HI-PAL) is teaming up with Kai’ Opua Canoe Club and Kai ‘Ehitu Canoe Club for the third annual HI-PAL Outrigger Canoe Regatta in Kona on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Keiki age 12 to 18 and clubs are encouraged to sign up now to participate in the HI-PAL regatta, which will feature 14 different events. It’s a fun opportunity for keiki to paddle with their club teammates, high school teammates, or their friends that may paddle for a different club or high school.

“This regatta has proven to be wildly popular since it began three years ago with more than 200 keiki participating last year. We welcome teens to join us for a memorable day of competition, camaraderie, and community spirit,” said Kona Community Policing Officer Leonard Warren.

Here’s the HI-PAL Canoe Regatta schedule:

  • Location: Kailua Pier, 75-5664 Ka‘ahumanu Place, Kailua-Kona
  • Check-in: 7:00 a.m.
  • Opening Ceremony: 9:00 a.m.
  • Races Start: shortly after the opening ceremony
  • Lunch and Award Ceremony: following the last race
  • Pau: 12:30 p.m.

Each participant (guardian) must complete a HI-PAL permission/release form. For more information and to obtain the necessary forms, please contact Officer Leonard Warren of Kona Community Policing at leonard.warren@hawaiicounty.gov.
