Fourth Annual Fill A Cruiser Food Drive August 30 in Kona
Media Release
The Hawaiʻi Police Department’s Kona Community Policing Section, in partnership with Kona Costco, the Food Basket, and KAPA Radio personality Tommy Ching, is pleased to announce the fourth annual Fill A Cruiser Food Drive slated for Friday, August 30, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Kona Costco parking lot, 73-5600 Maiua Street, in Kailua-Kona.
A blue and white marked police cruiser will be stationed in front of Costco, where Costco members and the general public are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items. Donors will have the opportunity to place their contributions directly into the police cruiser and take a photo with officers.
All collected nonperishable food items and monetary donations will be distributed by the Food Basket, Hawaiʻi Island’s Food Bank, to those in need across Hawaiʻi Island. This food drive was created during the COVID-19 lockdown to address the overwhelming need for food assistance within our island community. However, the need for food assistance has only continued to grow since that time.
This event provides an easy and excellent opportunity for residents to support their local community by donating essential items.
In the past three years, the Fill A Cruiser Food Drive has successfully collected more than 9,270 pounds of food and $10,957 in monetary donations. All donations stay on Hawaiʻi Island and benefit our island community.
The Hawaiʻi Police Department and its partner agencies encourage everyone to participate in this year’s event. Your generous donations will make a meaningful difference in the lives of many individuals in our community.
