5-25-24 Police Announce Temporary Closure of Kailua-Kona Transfer Station After Discovery of Unexploded Ordinances

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that the Transfer Station in the 74-0600 block of Hale Makai Place has been temporarily closed. On May 25, 2024, at approximately 12:04 p.m., Kona Patrol Officers responded to a call for Unexploded Ordinances in the Metal Recycling Bin within the Transfer Station.

Upon the Officers’ arrival on the scene, they discovered what appeared to be numerous Unexploded military-grade ordinances, a severe and potentially dangerous situation, that had been placed in the transfer station’s Metal Recycling bin.

The Transfer Station was immediately closed, awaiting the arrival of the Hawaii Inter-Island Bomb Squad.
