Media Release

The Hawai‘i Police Activities League (Hi-PAL) extends congratulations to the 250 children, ages 4 to 17, who participated in the Hawai‘i Keiki Rodeo Championships held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Panaewa Equestrian Center.

Events included team roping, barrel racing, pole racing, and calf riding, among others. Winners of the various events received specialized HPD belt buckles, which were proudly displayed by the participants.

Alongside the rodeo events, the Hawai‘i Police Department’s community police officers issued “Keiki ID” cards for the kids. The officers also engaged with attendees, providing a relaxed opportunity for both children and adults to connect with local law enforcement while enjoying the competition. HI-PAL also expresses profound appreciation to all volunteers and sponsors for their roles in making the Keiki Rodeo Competition a resounding success.

Hi-PAL is a program of the Hawai‘i Police Department where officers interact with youth in various activities as mentors. This positive engagement fosters teamwork, citizenship, and responsibility among the youth. If your Hilo community organization is interested in hosting a Hi-PAL event in your area, please contact the Hawai‘i Police Department’s Hilo community police officers at (808) 961-8849.
