During the week of February 5, through February 11, 2024, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 26 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 124 DUI arrests compared with 127 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 102 major crashes so far this year, compared with 112 during the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 8.9 percent.
To date, there were five fatal crashes, resulting in five fatalities, compared with three fatal crashes, resulting in 4 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths) for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 66.7 percent for fatal crashes and 25 percent for fatalities.
In 2024, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) is zero compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
