For the year 2023, there were 955 DUI arrests compared with 979 in 2022, a decrease of 2.5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There were 254 drivers arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant who were involved in traffic accidents in 2023, compared with 215 in 2022, an increase of 18.1 percent.
There were 65 drivers arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant who were under the age of 21 in 2023, compared with 85 in 2022, a decrease of 23.5 percent.
For the year 2023, there were 843 major accidents compared with 846 in 2022, a decrease of 0.35 percent.
In 2023 there were 14 fatal crashes on Hawaii Island, resulting in 15 fatalities, (one of which had multiple deaths, and two reclassified to a medical condition) compared with 31 fatal crashes resulting in 33 fatalities, (one of which had multiple deaths, and two reclassified to a medical condition) recorded in 2022. This represents a decrease of 54.8 percent for fatal crashes, and 54.5 percent for fatalities.
